Chief Examiner
Job Description
This is regulatory work involving the supervision of insurance examiners,
directing the examination of insurance companies and other related entities,
and having oversight of financial analysis related thereto.
The Chief Examiner works under
the general direction of the Director of Banking and Insurance
Examples of Work
Supervise professional staff by coordinating work assignments, evaluation
the performance of subordinates, and providing training as deemed necessary.
Plans, organizes and directs
financial examinations, as well as market conduct examinations, of insurance
companies and related entities.
Supervises the quarterly and
annual financial statements audits of insurance companies; and reviews
and evaluates examination reports submitted by subordinates.
Communicates verbally and in
writing with insurance company management and board of directors.
Reviews applications of insurance
companies seeking admission to conduct business in the territory and makes
recommendations relative thereto.
Develops and revises policies,
procedures, and administrative directives of insurance examination procedures.
Performs related responsibilities
as required or assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Financial
Accounting, six years or experience in regulating the insurance industry,
with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and finance.
Knowledge of insurance laws,
rules and regulations
Knowledge of the National Association
of Insurance Commissioner's procedures and guidelines
Knowledge of the insurance
industry
Knowledge of the operation
of personal computers and the function of software used
Knowledge of the principles
and practices of human resource and organizational management
Ability to plan, direct, coordinate
and control the operations of several functions, programs or operations.
Ability to plan work unit objectives
and operational activities and to assign and direct the work of subordinates
Ability to communicate technical
information both orally and in written form
Ability to analyze financial
statements to determine solvency and regulatory compliance
