GIS Technician

The Office of the Tax Assessor of the United States Virgin Islands seeks a GIS Technician to work on a permanent full time basis to assist in our land management activities.

The GIS Technician's duties will include supporting the GIS Coordinator in maintaining and developing the Tax Assessor GIS databases according to the department's policies and procedures.

GIS Technician learns, processes, and develops proficiency in the following activities:
- Implement current map and update maintenance procedures
- Integrate cadastral/survey information into GIS format using prescribed software
- Prepare property maps using legal descriptions
- Process database update requests
- Attribute data using prescribed software utilizing office procedures and specifications
- Develop maps and reports
- Performs basic preventative maintenance function to specialized computer and printing equipment

Minimum Qualifications
- Proficient in PC software packages
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in writing, orally and through telephone contact
- Demonstrates ability to analyze data, problem solve, prioritize and organize to achieve stated goal
- Demonstrates ability for spatial orientation; i.e. applying map to "real world" and mapping "real world" observations

Education and Experience
- Bachelor level degree is preferred not required.
- One-year experience in business, planning agency or computer related work is preferred;
- GIS or computer aided drafting experience is preferred
