ACTING GOVERNOR VARGRAVE RICHARDS CHECKS UP ON SEWER SYSTEM REPAIRS
AT DPW'S LAGOON STREET STATION
On site Sunday at the Lagoon Street Pump Station in Frederiksted, Acting
Governor Vargrave Richards was assured by Lonnie Hartman of General
Engineering Contractors and Department of Public Works Assistant Commissioner
Robert Moorehead that installation of a pump at the station was completed,
which will stem the tide of wastewater in the lagoon area that was spilling
into the sea.
"This weekend they completed the work necessary to discontinue
the flow of sewage to the ocean," Richards said. "I am glad
this emergency situation was finally addressed with a sense of urgency.
I now ask that Public Works division heads and hired contractors work
with equal fervor to bring the entire St. Croix infrastructure up to
par so such sewage bypasses will not be repeated."
