ACTING GOV. ANNOUNCES GVI SUBMISSIONS TO U.S. TREASURY RELATIVE TO EDC PROGRAM POSTED ON RevitalizeStCroix.com

Acting Governor Vargrave Richards announces to all interested parties that the position of the Government of the Virgin Islands, as well as related articles on issues affecting EDC beneficiaries, have been posted to the Lieutenant Governor’s RevitalizeStCroix.com website, also accessible through a link from the Lieutenant Governor’s website: www.ltg.gov.vi.

“Developments in the EDC Program over the course of the past several months are available for review on the Lieutenant Governor’s website listed above,” Acting Governor Richards shared. “Issues relative to V.I. residency, V.I. source and effectively connected income as set forth in the various GVI submissions by Washington counsel Winston and Strawn to the U.S. Department of Treasury are included for perusal by beneficiaries and the general public. The V.I. Government is continuing to work with the federal government to develop guidance on these issues in proposed regulation expected to be issued shortly by the Treasury Department.”

Acting Governor Richards said that the GVI would continue to vigorously assert its position on these issues in all forums.

Additionally, the Acting Governor states that postings on the website will continue as submissions, relevant information and developments arise. The website is intended to keep beneficiaries and the public informed about the critical issues and developments affecting the EDC community and the Government of the Virgin Islands. An EDC Newsletter has also been developed and posted on the website.

Questions regarding information on the website can be addressed to Ms. Brunet, Policy Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor at 774-2991 or Atty. Kleeger at 773-6449.
