LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR EXTENDS SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS
OF CALVIN WHEATLEY
Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richrds offers his heartfelt sympathy
on the passing of community icon Calvin Wheatley.
Richards shared that he came to know Calvin Wheatley "in a professional
capacity as we served on the same Commission tasked to overhaul the
procurement procedures for the Government of the Virgin Islands."
Richards also stated that it was in later years that he "was privileged
to see the personal side of Calvin that drove his deep love and commitment
and involvement to family and community alike."
Additionally, Lieutenant Governor Richards praised Wheatley as a "humble,
soft-spoken man who engendered respect and admiration. He was always
poised to lend a helping hand and a kind word." He especially saw
him as "a man of graceful distinction, who embodied an unassuming
demeanor filled with a sense of quiet strength but fierce determination."
He added that he saw him as a gentle but firm leader during his many
years of public and private service. Richards felt that these were the
qualities that enhanced Wheatley's reputation as a trustworthy and loyal
counsel throughout his days as a public for three administrations and
his tenure at the West Indian Company (WICO).
In conclusion, Lieutenant Governor Richards believed that Mr. Wheatley
understood and took seriously his role as a servant of the people by
contributing tirelessly of his time, energy and financial resources
to many community causes and activities. He was indeed a generous man
with a big heart.
Richards sends all the families and friends his support and comfort.
