LT. GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES NEW PASSPORT ‘SECURITY SURCHARGE FEE’
MANDATED BY U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Effective Tuesday, March 8, 2005, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s
Passport Division will institute a new “passport security surcharge
fee” federally mandated by the U.S. Department of State. These
fees are designed to fund multiple security enhancements in the U.S.
passport, according to the Department of State.
Each new passport application and each new passport renewal application
will incorporate this new “passport security surcharge fee.”
The cost of each new passport or renewal will increase by $12. The fees
are now as follows:
• Adult, first time - $97
• Adult, renewal - $67
• Child (under age 16), first time and renewal - $82. Adult fees
are applicable to anyone age 16 and older.
All fees are non-refundable. Additionally, records search fees for
the Department of State to verify U.S. citizenship will also increase
from $45 to $60.
