Effective Tuesday, March 8, 2005, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s Passport Division will institute a new “passport security surcharge fee” federally mandated by the U.S. Department of State. These fees are designed to fund multiple security enhancements in the U.S. passport, according to the Department of State.

Each new passport application and each new passport renewal application will incorporate this new “passport security surcharge fee.” The cost of each new passport or renewal will increase by $12. The fees are now as follows:
• Adult, first time - $97
• Adult, renewal - $67
• Child (under age 16), first time and renewal - $82. Adult fees are applicable to anyone age 16 and older.

All fees are non-refundable. Additionally, records search fees for the Department of State to verify U.S. citizenship will also increase from $45 to $60.

For further information, please contact the Passport Division at 773-6449 on St. Croix or 774-4024 on St. Thomas.
