ACTING GOVERNOR RICHARDS PROCLAIMS FRIDAY, APRIL 8TH, 2005, AS DAY
OF REMEMBRANCE FOR HIS HOLINESS JOHN PAUL II
Acting Governor Vargrave Richards today signed a Proclamation designating
Friday, April 8th, 2005, as a day when all Virgin Islanders and all
visiting the Territory should pause to remember his Holiness John Paul
II.
Acting Governor Richards stated that Friday, April 8th, 2005, the day
of the burial of His Holiness should be marked by respect and remembrance
for his contributions to the world.
“His Holiness Pope John Paul II gave much to the entire world.
He was a charismatic catalyst for progressive and purposeful change
throughout the world. His Holiness was instrumental in motivating and
inspiring change not only for the billions of Roman Catholics he nurtured,
but for the multitudes of various religious denominations,” Acting
Governor Richards indicated.
“It is only fitting that all throughout the Territory spend some
time reflecting on the extraordinary life of this great man, who devoted
almost three decades to humanitarian causes and fought for the freedom
of people everywhere,” Lieutenant Governor Richards stated.
“May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his life has been
a journey of spiritual, moral and religious upliftment for all who loved,
respected and admired him. Friday, April 8th, 2005, though a day of
mourning, will also be considered a day of celebration for a man who
touched lives throughout the world,” Acting Governor Richards
concluded.
