ACTING GOVERNOR RICHARDS EXTENDS HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO FAMILY OF
PFC. JASON LYNCH
Acting Governor Vargrave A. Richards announces "with a very heavy
heart" the second known Virgin Islands fatality of the war in Iraq.
Private First Class Jason Lynch, 21-year-old son of Paula Pemberton
Lynch and Hubert Lynch of St. Croix, was killed as a result of small
arms fire yesterday evening and at approximately 6:30 p.m. while on
duty in Baghdad. Lynch entered military service in July of 2003.
Acting Governor Richards was apprised of the details of Lynch's death
by Adjutant General Cleave McBean this afternoon.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of one so young as Jason
Lynch, and extend our heartfelt condolences to family, friends and loved
ones," Acting Governor Richards shared.
Acting Governor Richards added: "Everyone in the Territory mourns
his untimely death and sorrowfully offers our gratitude for his unselfish
service to the Territory and the Nation. He will always be held in the
very highest esteem for bravery and commitment to fighting for freedom
and democracy against terrorist forces. Jason Lynch paid the ultimate
sacrifice by his death so that all people around the world could live
in peace and freedom."
In concluding, Acting Governor Richards prays that there will be no
more lives lost and once again extends his sincere condolences to family
and friends and offers his assistance during this difficult period.
