Private First Class Jason Lynch, 21-year-old son of Paula Pemberton Lynch and Hubert Lynch of St. Croix, was killed as a result of small arms fire yesterday evening and at approximately 6:30 p.m. while on duty in Baghdad. Lynch entered military service in July of 2003.

Acting Governor Richards was apprised of the details of Lynch's death by Adjutant General Cleave McBean this afternoon.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of one so young as Jason Lynch, and extend our heartfelt condolences to family, friends and loved ones," Acting Governor Richards shared.

Acting Governor Richards added: "Everyone in the Territory mourns his untimely death and sorrowfully offers our gratitude for his unselfish service to the Territory and the Nation. He will always be held in the very highest esteem for bravery and commitment to fighting for freedom and democracy against terrorist forces. Jason Lynch paid the ultimate sacrifice by his death so that all people around the world could live in peace and freedom."

In concluding, Acting Governor Richards prays that there will be no more lives lost and once again extends his sincere condolences to family and friends and offers his assistance during this difficult period.
