ACTING GOVERNOR VARGRAVE RICHARDS LENDS HIS SUPPORT AND SIGNATURE TO
THE EXECUTIVE ORDER TO ESTABLISH A SCHOOL OF MEDICINE ON ST. CROIX
Acting Governor Vargrave Richards announced his support for Governor
Turnbull's decision to sign charters authorizing the establishment of
a school of medicine on the island of St. Croix.
Acting Governor Richards stated. "The establishment of a U.S.
Virgin Islands College of Medicine, LLC, will create unprecedented opportunities
for graduates of the University of the Virgin Islands who wish to pursue
medical careers, as well as lend itself to the overall improvement of
our overall health care system," Richards added.
"Moreover, this project is in keeping with the commitment to fast-forwarding
capital projects for St. Croix. This venture represents an immediate
$15 million dollars infusion into an economy that is swiftly eroding.
This social and economic stimulus will tremendously benefit St. Croix
and the Territory," Acting Governor Richards stated. "I am
excited and welcome the potential partnerships this creates. The construction
and other essential services sector will experience an increase in activity,
the jobs and arrival of new residents this will bring can only add to
the Territory's well-being. I believe that the Governor has made an
excellent choice in supporting this program and anxiously await its
completion and full operation," Richards shared.
