LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR JOINS IN PRAYERS TO
HONOR VICTIMS OF 9-11
Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards, in recognition and support of
the Proclamation signed by Governor Turnbull to designate September
11, 2004, as a "Day of Remembrance in the United States Virgin
Islands," also asks the V.I. public to join in prayers for innocent
victims and families of the 9-11 tragedy.
Lieutenant Governor Richards states that: "September 11, 2001,
will be forever etched in the minds and hearts of the American public
and all nations across the world who are committed to democracy and
to the fight against terrorism.
"The incalculable and horrific actions of that day remind us that
the freedoms and liberties of this great nation and our allies must
not be taken for granted. It reminds us that each life is precious and
that the entire world has been diminished by the lives lost on 9-11,"
Richards elaborated.
Lieutenant Governor Richards also shared that: "Until the forces
of terrorism and the continued victimization of our military personnel
and innocent lives at the hands of terrorists end, we are all at risk.
"Today, we remember and offer our heartfelt prayers and sympathy
to families and friends who lost loved ones because of the 9-11 tragedy
and thereafter in the war being waged against terrorism. We reaffirm
our commitment to upholding the ideals of peace, democracy and brotherhood
throughout the world," Richards added.
In concluding, Lieutenant Governor Richards called upon all residents
of the Territory to share a moment of silence in tribute to the victims
of 9-11.
