LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR VARGRAVE RICHARDS ASKS RESIDENTS TO JOIN TOGETHER IN REMEMBRANCE OF SEPTEMBER 11th HEROES AND INNOCENT VICTIMS

Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards asked residents to join together in remembrance of the innocent victims of September 11, 2001, as well as the heroic emergency workers who gave their lives to save strangers, the families and friends who still mourn, and the brave men and women in the armed forces who continue to fight for homeland security.

We will never forget that horrific morning when America was attacked on its own soil. Let us show our resiliency as a nation by joining together in peace and resolving to rid the world of terrorism.

Thank you to all of our firefighters, police officers and emergency medical service personnel for their dedication to protecting the residents of this territory. And thank you to the veterans and active service men and women who continue to fight for our freedom and security.

In honor of "A Day of Remembrance," proclaimed by Acting Governor Bernice Turnbull, the territory's churches are being asked to ring bells signifying the attacks of September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m. when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center; at 9:03 a.m. when United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center; at 9:43 a.m. when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon; and at 10:10 a.m. when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field outside of Pittsburgh, Penn.

Virgin Islanders are encouraged to join the nation in remembrance by lighting candles on the evening of September 11. The St. Croix Firefighters Union invites the public to participate in a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday on the Christiansted wharf.

The American Legion and Office of Veterans Affairs invite the public to participate in Patriot's Day ceremonies Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in Emancipation Garden, St. Thomas, and at noon in the American Legion Hall in Christiansted, St. Croix.

God bless America.
