Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards met Wednesday with St. Croix
fishermen at their request to listen to concerns about health and logistical
issues at the Mid-Isle Fisherman's Market, regulations on roadside vending,
and alternative marketing opportunities.
Additionally, Police Chief Novelle Francis and Department of Planning
and Natural Resources enforcement officer Carlos Farchette were in attendance.
Fisherman Edwin Ortiz served as mediator.
As an outcome of discussions, Lieutenant Governor Richards proposed
the fishermen organize an action committee to address their concerns
and to continue meeting regularly with representatives of DPNR, Police
and the Department of Agriculture.
"I commend you for uniting as one," Richards said. "You
can now collectively address your problems and seek solutions that will
be beneficial to all fishermen and the entire community."
