ACTING GOVERNOR RICHARDS EXTENDS GREETINGS ON 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF
VI-PUERTO RICO FRIENDSHIP DAY
Acting Governor Vargrave Richards extends his best wishes to all in
the Virgin Islands for an exciting 40th Anniversary of V.I.-Puerto Rico
Friendship Day celebration.
The Acting Governor encourages the entire community to participate
in this weekend's activities at the St. Croix Agricultural Fairgrounds
in Estate Lower Love. He also joins in commemorating the 2004 VI-PR
Friendship site, dubbed "The Honorable Candido R. Guadalupe Village"
in honor of the former Vice President of the 3rd and 4th Legislatures
of the Virgin Islands.
Acting Governor Richards also offers enthusiastic congratulations to
business owner Luis Angel Alicea, community activist Joseph "Joe"
Olmeda, St. Croix Majorettes founder Cielo Maldonado, former Senator
Patrick N. Williams, as well as the late Senator Randall "Doc"
James and recognizes their stellar contributions to St. Croix.
"The 40th Anniversary VI-PR Friendship theme - 'Como era antes,
como es ahora' or 'like it was before, as it is now' - is an accurate
and heartfelt reflection of the strength of the bonds and familial ties
Crucians and Puerto Ricans have shared for decades," Richards said.
"We are indeed one big family and are proud of the similarities
we share. Our camaraderie has shaped St. Croix into the dynamic, diverse
and colorful place that it is."
Acting Governor Richards welcomes all "friends" from Puerto
Rico and elsewhere who have traveled to participate in this extraordinary
cultural extravaganza. "Make it a safe and enjoyable celebration,"
he concluded.
