LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR EXTENDS LIBERTY DAY GREETINGS
Lieutenant Governor Vargrave A. Richards extends greetings to all on
the 89th Anniversary of Liberty Day, honoring the renowned freedom advocate
and labor movement pioneer David Hamilton Jackson.
"Each year as we celebrate and reflect on the significance of
Liberty Day and the legacy of David Hamilton Jackson, I recall the tremendous
sacrifices made to ensure freedom and a better quality of life for all
Virgin Islanders," Lieutenant Governor Richards stated. "Despite
these politically and fiscally challenging times, D. Hamilton Jackson's
drive and vision represents hope for the future and reminds us that
there is still much work to be accomplished."
The Lieutenant Governor encourages the public to join in Liberty Day
activities this Monday in Grove Place, spearheaded by the Grove Place
Action Committee, and to celebrate by sharing the ceremonial "Bull
and Bread."
"Virgin Islanders over the decades have struggled to live by the
tenacious and inspiring examples of men and women who have consistently
placed the best interest of the people above their own, like D. Hamilton
Jackson," Lieutenant Governor Richards said. "His dedicated
sense of duty to his fellow men and his impeccable record of accomplishments
led to considerable gains in the fight for Independence, freedom of
the press, and the passing of the Organic Act of 1936, as well as other
actions that greatly impacted the quality of life for the Territory."
The Lieutenant Governor wishes Virgin Islanders and visitors alike
a memorable "Bull and Bread Day," and reminds all to continue
Jackson's vision by exercising the right to vote on November 2nd.
