ACTING GOVERNOR EXTENDS SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF
FORMER SENATOR AND ST. JOHN ADMINISTRATOR NOBLE B. SAMUEL
Acting Governor Vargrave Richards offers his deepest sympathy to the
family and friends of former Senator and St. John Administrator Noble
Samuel, beloved uncle to present-day St. John Administrator Julian Harley.
"Noble," as he was affectionately known, was warm and caring
to his constituents. He spent an inordinate amount of time, and listened
attentively and empathetically to those in need. He paid particular
care to the neediest and went above and beyond the call of duty to bring
relief and assistance to all who sought him out.
"Mr. Samuel was a man of great integrity, who possessed great
love for his fellow citizens. A strong disciplinarian, he mentored hundreds
who came to regard him as a sincere friend and man of his word. Steadfast
in his commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands, 'Noble' was an
exemplary role model to all throughout the Territory," Acting Governor
Richards said. "However, there was no mistaking that the well-being
of St. John and its residents was uppermost in his mind and mission."
The Acting Governor noted with admiration Mr. Samuel's dedication to
'service above self' and his long and varied career in public service,
including his experience in the U.S. military, the Virgin Islands Police
Department, and with the National Park Service on St. John and later
on St. Croix. During his retirement years on St. Croix, he was known
for his hearty interest in agriculture.
"I join the Virgin Islands community in bidding farewell to a
man of distinct and immeasurable honor, a true son of Virgin Islands
soil," Acting Governor Richards said. "'Noble' will be sorely
missed. May he rest in peace."
